A Great Wave orange sky print for a living room that catches the evening light. The navy and white wave rises against an orange-yellow sky, a cream sun hangs above, and a small Mount Fuji sits in the distance. It is the familiar wave warmed up for the room where people gather.
About the artwork
Navy and white carry the wave, with its foam picked out in white, while the sky is an orange-yellow around a cream sun. Mount Fuji appears small in the distance, and the whole image sits on a cream ground rather than bright white, which softens the edges. The wave is drawn after The Great Wave off Kanagawa, which Hokusai made around 1831, and the lettering reads THE GREAT WAVE and KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI. A new woodblock-style design. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- Warm sky, cool wave. The orange-yellow sky makes the navy and white wave stand out sharply.
- Mount Fuji included. A small Fuji in the distance gives the scene a sense of scale behind the crest.
- Cream instead of white. The cream ground and cream sun soften the contrast, so it feels warm rather than stark.
- A familiar name, a new palette. THE GREAT WAVE and KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI are lettered on the sheet, while the colors are its own.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it over a sofa in a living room with warm white, cream or sand walls, where the orange sky can echo a rust throw or a wood floor. It also works above a low oak sideboard. Choose 24" x 36" for a standard sofa or 30" x 40" for a tall open wall. A natural or espresso solid wood floating frame suits the warm palette. Pair it with a small navy print or a navy cushion nearby to repeat the wave color.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is Mount Fuji in this design? Yes, a small Mount Fuji sits in the distance. At 3,776 m it is Japan's highest peak.
Which frame color suits the orange sky? Natural or espresso wood picks up the warm tones. A black solid wood floating frame gives more contrast if your walls are pale.
What size should I get for above a sofa? 24" x 36" suits most sofas. For a very wide sofa or a high ceiling, go to 30" x 40".
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
