A navy and orange Great Wave print for a living room that leans modern. Stylized waves in navy, pale blue and cream roll across white, with streaks of red-orange running between them. It keeps the energy of the classic wave but feels fresh, warm and a little playful.
About the artwork
Navy, pale blue and cream carry the waves, white foam tips the crests, and red-orange streaks run between the layers to warm the whole thing up. The shapes are simplified rather than detailed, so it reads as pattern as much as sea. Everything sits on a white ground, with three small color swatches that note the palette. The lettering reads THE GREAT WAVE and STYLE OF HOKUSAI, which says exactly what it is. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- Warm and cool together. Red-orange streaks cut through the navy and blue, so it suits rooms with both cool and warm tones.
- The palette is on the sheet. Three small color swatches show the colors, handy when choosing cushions or a throw.
- Stylized, not busy. The waves are simplified into clean shapes, which keeps a large 24" x 36" print calm.
- Honest lettering. STYLE OF HOKUSAI is printed on the sheet, a clear note that this is a new design after Hokusai.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
This is a living room print. Hang it above a navy or cream sofa and let the red-orange pick up a rust cushion, a leather chair or a terracotta pot. White, warm white or pale blue walls suit it best. At 24" x 36" it covers a sofa wall; 30" x 40" works on a larger empty wall. A natural solid wood floating frame brings out the cream. Pair it with a plain navy textile or a small cream ceramic on a shelf below.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Which colors does this print use? Navy, pale blue, cream and white carry the waves, with red-orange streaks between them. Three small swatches on the sheet show the palette.
What does STYLE OF HOKUSAI mean on the print? It signals that this is a new design after Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), the artist behind The Great Wave off Kanagawa, not a copy of his print.
What should I pair it with on a gallery wall? Plain navy or cream pieces keep it grounded. A small line drawing or a single-color print lets the red-orange stay the one warm note.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
