A sumi-e mountain print for a living room with space to look into. Cliffs and pines stand in front, pointed peaks sink into gray mist behind them, and a red sun spreads softly in an upper corner. The ground is toned like old paper, which warms every shade of gray.
About the artwork
This is an ink wash in the sumi-e manner: black and gray ink, one red sun, and a paper-toned ground. Cliffs and pines hold the front, while the pointed peaks dissolve into mist, which builds depth with very little detail. The red sun is washed in rather than outlined, bleeding into the paper at the top corner. In the right corner there is a signature-style mark and an ink seal; both are simulated as part of the design. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- Depth from mist. The peaks fade into gray, so the print suggests distance with almost no lines.
- A sun that spreads. The red is washed into the paper tone rather than drawn as a hard circle, which keeps it soft.
- Paper-toned ground. The aged-paper background warms the gray ink and sits well with wood furniture.
- Layers you can read. Cliffs and pines in front, mist in the middle and pointed peaks behind let the eye walk back through the scene.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Give it a living room wall in warm white, parchment or pale gray, above a sofa or a long, low bookcase in walnut or teak. Ceramic vases and a wool rug in stone tones sit well with its ink. 24" x 36" suits most sofa walls; 30" x 40" gives the mist more room on a tall wall. Pair it with a small ink study of bamboo or a single pine branch on either side.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is the signature from a real artist? No. The signature-style mark and seal in the right corner are simulated as part of the design, which is a new print inspired by traditional ink painting.
Is the paper actually aged? No, the old-paper tone is part of the image. It gives the gray ink a warm ground.
Which living room walls suit it best? Warm white, parchment and pale gray let the mist read clearly. On a dark wall, choose a white solid wood floating frame to give it an edge.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Matte canvas

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
