This Playa Norte travel poster is drawn looking down the beach from above. In the foreground, a cluster of striped parasols in orange, green, blue and pink stands over sun loungers on white sand. Coconut palms lean out over the water and throw long shadows across the middle of the picture. Beyond them the shallows run clear over dark rock patches out to two small moored boats.
About the artwork
The illustration is built from layered flat shapes with a fine speckled texture over the water, so the surface reads as glitter rather than flat colour. The palette moves from cream and warm sand through aqua, jade and a deep petrol blue offshore, with olive and lime green in the palm fronds and small hits of orange, magenta and yellow in the parasols. The composition is a diagonal: the palm trunks lean in from the left while the shoreline runs down to the lower right corner. The lettering across the top reads PLAYA NORTE above MEXICO. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Palm shadows do the drawing — the long blue frond shadows across the sand are the strongest graphic element, not the sky.
- Confetti of parasols — the striped sunshades in the lower third add small bursts of orange, pink and lime to an otherwise cool picture.
- Water you can read — pale shallows, dark rock patches and a deep offshore channel are all clearly separated.
- Small human details — waders standing in knee-deep water, loungers, thatched shade and two moored boats give it scale.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The greens here are the deciding colour: lime and olive palm fronds sit beautifully against a butter, sand or pale terracotta wall, and they also hold their own on a deeper green painted wall. A natural or espresso wood frame follows the palm trunks; white lacquer keeps things breezy if the room already has a lot of wood. The parasol colours are playful enough for a sunroom, a child's room or a bright landing, and they pick up a striped cushion or a woven basket without much effort. Hang it where afternoon light falls on it and the speckled water reads as sparkle.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Where is Playa Norte? It is the north beach of Isla Mujeres, the small island off the Yucatan coast. The print carries only the beach name, so the lettering reads PLAYA NORTE rather than the island name.
What size should I get? Above a sofa or bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall. For a desk, shelf or gallery grouping, 12" x 18" and 16" x 24" are the easiest to place.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas arrive unframed. The framed canvas option adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
