This Pictured Rocks watercolor print shows sandstone cliffs streaked with orange, green and black mineral bands rising from Lake Superior, seen from a kayak at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the lakeshore, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Fine brown ink outlines the arches, sea caves and sandstone layers, and the mineral stains run down the cliffs in orange, green and black washes. The lake is a clear turquoise wash with rocks visible below the surface and ripples left as white paper. The cliffs run diagonally along the right side, seen at water level from a kayak heading along them. A yellow kayak bow fills the lower foreground, other kayakers paddle in the middle distance, and farther cliffs and a white tour boat sit in the background. Late-summer light sets the season, and blue and gold drips trail off the left edge. "PICTURED ROCKS" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Kayaker's view. The yellow bow of a kayak in the foreground puts you on the water beside the cliffs.
- Mineral-striped cliffs. Orange, cream, green and black stains streak the rock in vertical bands.
- Superior turquoise. Clear turquoise and blue water is set off by yellow kayaks and red life vests.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The turquoise and orange tones suit a lake house, a kids' room or a bright living room. Give it to a Michigan paddler or anyone who has kayaked along Lake Superior.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Pictured Rocks? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Pictured Rocks, drawn as a loose watercolor scene rather than a precise copy of the cliffs.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "PICTURED ROCKS," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
