A Blue Mesa, Petrified Forest National Park poster, drawn in the golden-age style: broken petrified logs with lavender and gray crystal faces lying across the badlands below Blue Mesa.
About the artwork
The logs lie across the foreground, and banded cones step back to a flat blue horizon. Brick-red bark is drawn in hard strokes against the soft blue and violet striping of the slopes. The logs are Late Triassic conifers whose wood was replaced by quartz more than two hundred million years ago. The lettering reads “Blue Mesa, Painted Desert, Arizona” and pairs it with a date line and map coordinates for the park (35.07 N, 109.78 W).
Why you'll love it
- Stone wood. Crystal-faced logs on blue badlands.
- Named on the sheet. Each landmark print carries its place names and map coordinates in hand-drawn lettering.
- Thirteen sizes. Paper runs from 8" x 12" up to 30" x 40", plus A4 to A1, and canvas starts at 12" x 16".
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, color-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Give it a study, an office or a living room in desert tones. Brick, lavender and blue-gray pair with cream and dark wood; a natural frame suits it.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the color, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Which size works best? 12" x 16" suits a desk wall or a hallway; 18" x 24" and up holds its own above a sofa or bed, and 30" x 40" anchors a large room.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
How is this different from your other Petrified Forest prints? This is the landmark version, built around Blue Mesa with its place names and coordinates lettered on the sheet. The vintage travel poster, WPA, screen print, retro, mid-century, panoramic, classical oil, impasto oil, watercolor and illustrated Petrified Forest prints are separate designs.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Damage, defects & care
Every piece is printed for you after you order, so we cannot take a print back for a change of mind — please check the size and material first. Our Size Guide shows every size drawn to scale.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
