A Lempuyang Temple Bali poster built on a single idea: two carved stone halves of a split gate stand apart, and in the gap between them a near-perfect volcano cone rises out of the haze. Below, a shallow pool holds the whole arrangement upside down.
About the artwork
The composition is almost exactly symmetrical, split down the centre line and drawn in flat planes with dense line work on the stonework. The palette is deliberately narrow: cool slate grey and bone for the carved gate, graded steel blue for the mountain, and a darker version of all of it in the reflection. Each gate half is stacked with tiered mouldings, guardian figures and relief panels, and one rust-orange tree in the gap is the only warm note. Lettering reads BALI above INDONESIA.
Why you'll love it
- The mirrored composition is graphic enough to read from across a room.
- A muted grey and blue palette makes it the most restrained Indonesian design.
- The single orange tree gives the eye somewhere to land in a cool image.
- Strong vertical symmetry means it hangs well as a single centred piece.
Where it works at home
Symmetry is what you plan around. Centre it on a wall rather than offsetting it, ideally above a bed, a fireplace or a console table. The cool grey and blue suits bathrooms and bedrooms with white or pale blue walls. Black is graphic; white keeps it airy.
Sizes and materials
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Thirteen sizes are available, from 8 x 12 inches up to a 30 x 40 inch statement piece, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. Every piece is made to order.
Shipping and care
Each piece is printed and finished after the order is placed, then shipped in protective packaging — paper prints rolled in a rigid tube, canvas and framed canvas boxed with corner guards. Keep the artwork out of direct sunlight and wipe framed canvas with a dry, soft cloth. Paper prints are best handled by the edges until they are framed.
Questions
Which material should I choose? Paper is the most affordable option and lets you pick your own frame. Matte canvas adds depth and needs no glass. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang and is the usual choice for a feature wall.
Will the colours match what I see on screen? Printing is colour-managed, so the artwork stays very close to the preview. Paper reads slightly softer than canvas, which holds a touch more contrast.
How does this compare with the other Bali prints here? There are three Bali designs in the shop and they share no imagery. This is the stone split gate with a volcano framed between the halves and a mirrored pool. Another shows the terraced rice fields inland near Ubud. The third is a sea temple on a rock in breaking waves.
