A pastel Great Wave print for a bedroom that should feel soft. Pink and mint green waves curl under a peach sky that fades to yellow, with a round cream sun and a few small birds. It keeps the famous shape but trades the drama for something gentle to wake up to.
About the artwork
Pink and mint green make up the waves, with cream foam along the crests. The sky moves from peach-orange to yellow around a round cream sun, and a few small birds sit within it. A cream border frames the image, and three small dots in orange, pink and green sit in a lower corner. The lettering reads THE GREAT WAVE and HOKUSAI, along with a short line of Japanese characters. A new design inspired by Hokusai. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- Soft enough for a bedroom. Pink, mint and peach replace the usual navy, so the wave feels calm rather than stormy.
- A sky that fades. The peach-orange to yellow sky gives the print a gentle gradient that reads like early or late light.
- Small details. A few tiny birds and a round cream sun reward a closer look from the bed.
- Colors you can match. Three small dots in orange, pink and green sit in the corner, a ready guide for bedding and cushions.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it above the headboard in a bedroom with blush, cream or pale sage walls. It sits well over light oak or white bedside tables and next to linen bedding in pink or green. A 24" x 36" print suits a queen headboard; 16" x 24" works above a dresser. A white or natural solid wood floating frame keeps it light. Pair it with a small mint or peach abstract on the opposite wall so the colors carry across the room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this print too bright for a bedroom? No. The palette is pastel pink, mint, peach and cream, so it reads soft even at 24" x 36" above a bed.
How is this different from the classic Great Wave? It is a new design inspired by Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa, made around 1831, redrawn in pink and mint with a peach sky, a cream sun and small birds.
Should I frame it in white or natural wood? Both keep the look soft: white for a crisp, airy bedroom, natural wood if you have oak or linen tones. A black frame adds contrast on very pale walls.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
