This Champaign watercolor print shows Foellinger Auditorium and its green copper dome at the end of the University of Illinois Main Quad, with crabapples in bloom. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the Illinois college town, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The copper dome is washed in pale aqua with highlights left as bare paper, and fine brown ink outlines the columns, windows, rooflines and lampposts. Foellinger Auditorium sits at the center, red brick with a columned entrance, while red-brick Georgian Revival halls with white columns line both sides of the Quad and a bell tower shows in the distance. The long lawn with diagonal paths and pink crabapple trees fills the foreground. Grass and tree green lead the palette, with brick red, crabapple pink and copper green. Pink and blue-violet drips and splatter dissolve the edges under a wide Illinois sky. "CHAMPAIGN" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Crabapple blossoms. Pink flowering crabapples soften the foreground with spring color.
- Looking down the Quad. The long lawn and lines of halls lead straight to the domed auditorium.
- Double-globe lampposts. Old-style two-globe street lamps line the walks where students cycle and picnic.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green, brick red and blossom pink suit a bedroom, a study or a first apartment living room. It is a natural graduation gift or a present for an Illinois alum who misses the Quad in spring.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Champaign? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Main Quad, painted with loose washes and ink rather than as an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "CHAMPAIGN," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
