This El Morro San Juan poster looks along the fortress headland from above. Golden sandstone ramparts step down the left in tiers, a round sentry box with a domed cap juts out over the drop, and a small tower with a red-tiled roof stands on the highest wall. Grass slopes fall to a rocky shore, and turquoise Atlantic water breaks white across the whole right side.
About the artwork
Painterly brushwork built from flat, layered colour blocks, with the stonework rendered in warm honey, ochre and sun-bleached cream against long violet-grey shadows. The sea moves through teal, jade and deep petrol blue, and the foam is cut in as hard white shapes rather than soft spray. The composition is a strong diagonal: fortress and green headland down the left, open water filling the right, cumulus cloud banked along the horizon. The lettering reads SAN JUAN above PUERTO RICO in white capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The fortress in full — tiered ramparts, curved bastion walls, an arched doorway and a domed sentry box, all drawn from a high vantage point.
- Real Atlantic colour — teal shallows over rock deepening to petrol blue, with white foam tracing the shoreline.
- Warm stone against cool water — honey sandstone and green turf balanced by the blues on the right.
- Weather in the sky — stacked cumulus along the horizon gives the scene depth without crowding the fort.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Honey stone, moss green and deep teal give this print a grounded, outdoors feel, so warm white, putty or a soft sage wall lets both halves breathe. A natural oak or espresso frame follows the sandstone, while black frames sharpen the sea. It holds a living room wall above a cream sofa where the turquoise picks up in cushions or glassware, and it suits a home office with a wooden desk, brass fittings and a leafy plant. Pair it with linen and unglazed ceramics rather than anything high-gloss.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Why does the print say San Juan rather than the fort's name? The lettering names the city, and the fortress shown here is Castillo del Morro, the Spanish citadel on the headland at the entrance to San Juan bay. We also sell two other San Juan prints, so it is worth knowing which is which: a wider San Juan view of the fortifications and coastline, and an Old San Juan print of the walled town's coloured houses and cobbled streets with no open sea in it. This one stays on the fortress itself, its stepped ramparts and the surf below.
What size should I get? Above a sofa or bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall. For a desk, shelf or gallery grouping, 12" x 18" and 16" x 24" are the easiest to place.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas arrive unframed. The framed canvas option adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
