This Bismarck watercolor print shows the tall Art Deco tower of the North Dakota State Capitol rising above lawns and golden prairie grass. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the capitol grounds, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Thin ink lines trace the tower's vertical window bands, and the prairie grass is painted in long, fine strokes of straw yellow. The palette is straw gold, cream limestone and lawn green, with blue window bands, a distant blue river and the bronze of the statue as accents. The 19-story tower stands at the center with the long legislative wing at its base, seen from the lawn looking north. A straight path leads in from the lower right, the bronze Sakakawea statue carrying her child stands middle right, and tall prairie grass fills the lower left. The low roofs of Bismarck and rolling prairie stretch behind in late summer, with drips and splatter fading into white paper. "BISMARCK" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Art Deco skyscraper. The capitol's slim tower gives the print a strong vertical line unlike any domed capitol.
- Prairie gold. Tall golden grasses in the foreground bring the plains right into the frame.
- Kite on the lawn. Kids fly a kite while a couple strolls and a cyclist rides along the walk.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Golden and cream tones pair well with a living room, bedroom or entryway in warm neutrals, wheat or sage. It is a heartfelt gift for a North Dakotan who has moved away or anyone with roots on the northern plains.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Bismarck? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the capitol grounds; some background features, such as a river and bridge, are simplified or rearranged for the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "BISMARCK," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
