This Bay of Islands New Zealand poster looks out from a windswept grass clifftop across a maze of small green islands scattered over a deep teal harbour. Tiny cream sails drift near the horizon, bush-covered domes catch the afternoon light, and the water shifts from turquoise shallows to a darker open channel in the foreground.
About the artwork
A flat vector travel-poster illustration built from layered, screen-print style shapes rather than fine detail. The palette runs through pale chartreuse and sage grasses, olive and forest-green island scrub, warm sandstone rock ledges, turquoise shallows and a deep petrol-blue channel, under a soft aqua sky with cream cloud banks. The composition sweeps on a diagonal from the tussock-covered headland in the lower left out to the scattered islets and a faint mountain line on the horizon. Across the top the poster prints BAY OF ISLANDS in tall white capitals, with NEW ZEALAND centred beneath it. A clean white margin frames all four sides. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A calm ocean blue that anchors a room. The deep petrol-teal channel gives the print weight, so it holds a wall without shouting.
- Green that reads fresh, not tropical. Sage tussock and olive scrub keep the palette soft enough for a bedroom.
- Depth you keep reading. Sailboats, hidden coves and layered islands reward a second look from close up.
- A souvenir of a sailing holiday. The clifftop viewpoint and drifting sails suit anyone who has cruised this Northland harbour.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The teal water sits beautifully against warm white or a soft clay wall, and the sage tussock picks up the olive green paint in the rattan-chair photograph. Light oak and pale ash frames echo the sandstone ledges, while walnut deepens the blues if you want more contrast. It suits a bedroom above a round bedside table with a mushroom lamp and bamboo stems, or a coastal-leaning living room built on linen, jute and pale ceramics.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or a bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall. For a gallery grid or a desk shelf, 12" x 18" and 16" x 24" sit comfortably. A2 and A3 fit standard European frames.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
Can you see the sailboats up close? Yes. Several small cream sails are printed along the horizon line, and they stay legible from 16" x 24" upward.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
