About the artwork

The whole print is built from linework: hundreds of thin parallel strokes following the cross-bedding of the Navajo sandstone, so the rock reads as flowing layers rather than a painted surface. The palette is narrow and warm - apricot, salmon, terracotta and rust, with cream and pale buff in the lighter bands and a few deep brown seams cutting across the trough.
