About the artwork

The only interior perspective in the series, and the most graphic composition. The arcade recedes at a sharp angle so the piers get narrower and closer together as they go, and the lanterns repeat down the line at diminishing scale — a rhythm that does most of the work. The palette is three colours held hard: vermilion brick, cream limestone on the quoins and cornices, and a deep teal sky above. Ironwork on the balconies and lantern brackets is drawn in near-black filigree. The shadow pattern on the ground is as carefully constructed as the architecture. Flat vector illustration.
