About the artwork

Light is the subject as much as the street is. The lane is cut diagonally by hard sunlight and deep blue-violet shade, so the cobbles read as two colours rather than one, and the stone walls shift from warm honey where the sun lands to cool grey in the recess. Everything else is detail: mullioned windows, a wrought-iron lantern, hand-painted signboards, a run of stone steps rising to the right, and flower baskets in magenta and coral repeating up the length of the street.
