About the artwork

A dense, hand-illustrated treatment rather than a flat graphic one, with bark, moss and leaf clusters all drawn in. The trunks are painted in warm red-brown and mahogany with grey lichen patches and climbing ivy, and the canopy is stacked in four or five separate greens, from acid lime where the sun hits to near-black in the shade. Grey-green Spanish moss drapes the top of the frame like a valance. The road is a strong terracotta with wheel ruts, edged in bright grass, and a saw palmetto fans out at the lower left.
