About the artwork

The most colour-dense print in the series, and it earns it. The trencadís bench is drawn tile by tile — irregular fragments of cobalt, turquoise, tomato red, mustard and cream that give the bottom third a genuine mosaic texture rather than a printed pattern. Above it the city is handled in the opposite way: flat terracotta rooftops compressed into horizontal bands, with the Sagrada Família's spires and one of Gaudí's tiled pavilion turrets breaking the line. The sea closes the composition as a single blue strip under a warm sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Spain beneath. Portrait, 2:3.

Styling it at home

Give this one a plain wall and nothing to compete with. White, off-white or a very pale warm grey lets the mosaic do the work; a coloured wall will fight it. It is the wrong choice for a busy gallery arrangement and the right choice as a single large piece — 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" above a sofa or a dining table. A plain black or natural oak frame keeps the focus on the tiles; skip ornate frames here.
