About the artwork

Dark red on peach, one ink throughout. Four ruffled carnation heads rise from a single stem, their frilled edges cut into short strokes so the flowers keep their texture even at small sizes, with narrow grass-like leaves running up the stalk. A fern ornament fills the lower-left corner and the 1¢ denomination sits in a circle opposite.
